Just like any other machine, an RO water purifier may stop working in case if certain conditions are not met.
There are several reasons why your RO purifier system has stopped functioning all of a sudden.
And, some reasons are very simple and you can solve it yourself without the help of a technician, whereas the other issues require a qualified technician to get resolved.
Why an RO Water Purifier Stops Working Suddenly?
Listed below are the most common reasons why an RO system does not work at times and what to do about it.
1.Lack of Power Supply
The first and the most common reason why an RO system stops working is lack of power supply.
In this case, make sure that the plug has been properly inserted.
Using a tester device, check whether there is a supply of electricity to the RO point. Also, see if there are any loose connection issues on the board.
2.Lack of Water Supply
Ensure that you’ve not switched off the diverter valve accidentally.
The RO system automatically switches off in case of no water supply to the machine. So, check whether the other household tap connections are receiving water.
Read: Extremely high TDS levels in water could also block the supply of water to the RO.
3.SMPS Adapter Issue
If the above two solutions do not make your RO to function, then it may be because your SMPS adapter has burned out due to high voltage fluctuations.
In such case, you’ll have to replace the SMPS.
An SMPS adapter is an important part of your water purifier system as it converts the AC to DC for the pumps to work.
You should contact the technician to get the SMPS replaced.
4.Pressure Pump Malfunction
Since most of our water purifiers work on the process called ‘Reverse Osmosis’, there is a dire use of the pressure pump to apply pressure on the liquid for the RO process to work.
These pumps are usually non-repairable and in such cases, you’ll need to install a new pump.
Call the service center for assistance.
5.Low-Pressure Switch Problem
A low-pressure switch cuts off the RO water purifier in case the input water pressure is below a certain limit, in order to prevent the pump from getting dry.
You can easily replace this switch yourself but if you’re not aware of the common household repairs, then you’ll need a technician to do the job.
6.Solenoid Valve Stopped Working
When the RO is switched off, the solenoid valve cuts off the water coming from the pump so that the waste water is stopped from flowing into the RO membrane.
This would stop the RO machine from working or purifying the water further.
You need a technician to do this job.
7.Float Valve is Malfunctioning
When the internal tank gets full with purified drinking water, the float valve immediately shuts off the RO to work further, thereby preventing any overflow of water.
But, in case if the float valve is malfunctioning, the machine is permanently shut off.
You may have to contact the customer care to resolve this issue.
8.Air Vacuum Inside the RO
If the pipe is loose and the pump is sucking in air, then that air gets trapped inside the RO and prevents it from working.
There is also another reason for the presence of air vacuum inside the RO. The pre-filter, if blocked, will not let the water pass through, thus creating a vacuum.
This air vacuum prevents any water from getting inside the RO system and hence the RO purifier stops working.
You’ll need the support of a technician to get this problem solved.
These are a few common causes why your RO purifier stops working at times. Not all problems can be fixed by yourself. If your water purifier is still under warranty, then it is best to let the qualified technician do the job, or else the warranty could be void in case of any faulty repair done by you.
You’ll also get a free replacement of parts under the warranty contract. So, better make use of the free service. You also have the option to extend the warranty period in case if it expires and avail the free servicing and parts replacement by the manufacturer.
